Knife Care and Guarantee

ATS - 34 is very expensive and has a reputation for holding an edge better than most other steels.  I would rate it superior to the 440 series steels in every category except one.  While the catalogs advertise ATS - 34 as "stainless," it is far from stainless.  To prevent oxidation, wipe the blade after use.  A light coat of oil can't hurt.  However, I think the most important thing is, don't store the knife in a sheath made from acid-tanned leather.  The acid used in the tanning process is a killer for the steel.  When you put the knife away for an extended period of time, remove it from the sheath and wrap it in a soft cloth.

Your knife is guaranteed for as long as I live.  The knife has a very fine edge which will do well when cutting, but will not stand up when hacking bone, wood, etc.  The terms of the guarantee are:  Your choice of a new knife or having your knife repaired.  The knives, however, are not guaranteed against rust because proper care of your knife will prevent any rust from occurring.

If you experience anything (other than rust) that causes you to be unhappy with the knife, it is fully guaranteed.

Your knife will occasionally need to be sharpened.  You may mail the knife back to me and I will sharpen it and return it to you, or you may sharpen the knife yourself.

Your Harbuck knife was built to last and to be used.  With just a little care, your knife should serve you well for many years.
